Here are even more insights from a group of mothers to make new mums feel more confident as they embark on this beautiful journey.

“A mother’s love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible” – Marion C. Garretty.

Loni, River’s mummy.

Top Tip: Give yourself some time to rest after birth - new mums often feel the pressure to get back to real life, ‘snap back’ or do baby classes. I definitely felt this and tried to do too much and got exhausted so quickly! You have to be kind to yourself as a mum.

Roxanne, April’s mummy.

Top Tip: If you have the option, try and have a full night’s sleep even if it’s just one evening (at the weekend). It massively helped me having that one night as the sleep deprivation is tough.

Milly, Olivia’s mummy.

Top Tip: Listen to everyone’s advice, say thank you, but do your own thing! Everyone will offer you advice but you know your baby best. Focus on cherishing every moment because time goes too quickly and make sure you take lots of photos/videos as you will find yourself constantly looking over old photos. Enjoy every moment!

Renske, Oscar’s mummy.

Top Tip: If you’re breastfeeding, set short term goals instead of immediately thinking ‘I’m going to do it for a year or longer.’ Setting short term goals helped me especially in the first few months when it was a real struggle and then each time I hit my goal and things got easier I felt really proud of myself and it helped me to keep going. Now, 8 months in, I’m still setting short term goals as sometimes it can take its mental toll.
